Get to Know Meco
Preferences
Where can I find Preferences?
Go to Meco Settings → Preferences.
Notifications
Use Notifications to decide when Meco should alert you about new newsletters. You can turn notifications off, receive a daily reminder, get an alert whenever a newsletter arrives, or limit arrival alerts to selected newsletters.
This is also where you control the number shown on the Meco app icon. See Notifications & Badges for setup instructions and all available choices.
Mark Messages Read
This preference controls how quickly opening a newsletter removes its unread status:
- Immediately marks a newsletter as read as soon as you open it. Choose this if opening an issue normally means you have started reading it.
- After a delay keeps it unread briefly after opening. This is useful if you sometimes open the wrong newsletter or only glance at an issue before returning to it.
- Manually keeps the newsletter unread until you explicitly mark it as read. Choose this if you want complete control over which issues leave your unread queue.
You can manually change a newsletter's read status regardless of which option you choose.
Post Delete Behavior
This controls where Meco takes you after you delete the newsletter you are currently reading:
- Go To Next Newsletter opens the next issue automatically. This is useful when clearing a reading queue one newsletter at a time.
- Return To Previous Screen takes you back to the list you came from. Choose this if you prefer to review the Digest before opening another issue.
Automatic refresh on open
When enabled, Meco checks for updated newsletter content whenever the app opens. This helps the Digest show the latest available issues without requiring a manual refresh.
Leave it off if you prefer to control when Meco refreshes—for example, when using a limited or slower connection.
Unread Badge Options
Unread Badge Options changes how unread newsletter cards are visually distinguished from newsletters you have already read:
- No Indicator does not add a separate unread marker.
- Dot To Display Unread places a dot beside unread newsletters, providing an explicit status marker.
- Non-Faded Display Unread uses the card's visual emphasis to distinguish unread newsletters; unread items remain prominent while read items appear faded.
This setting changes the visual indicator in Meco, not when a newsletter is marked as read.
Swipe Shortcuts
Swipe Shortcuts let you act on a newsletter directly from the list without opening it. Configure the left and right swipe independently, choosing from:
- None disables the shortcut for that direction.
- Delete removes the newsletter.
- Mark Read/Unread toggles its current read status.
- Bookmark saves it to Bookmarks for later.
For example, you could assign Delete to a left swipe and Bookmark to a right swipe. Choose actions you are comfortable triggering quickly, particularly for Delete.
View Links
This controls what happens when you tap a web link inside a newsletter:
- In-App opens the page inside Meco, making it quicker to return to the newsletter.
- Default Browser leaves Meco and opens the page in your device's chosen browser. Use this if you prefer your browser's tabs, saved logins, extensions, or other browsing tools.
App Theme
App Theme controls the appearance of the Meco interface:
- Light always uses Meco's light appearance.
- Dark always uses Meco's dark appearance, which may be more comfortable in low light.
- System follows your device setting and changes when your device switches between light and dark appearance.
